Internal Coordinates

Nathan Davis

Internal coordinates describe the position of an atom in a molecule relative to the positions of other atoms within the same molecule as opposed to using a Cartesian coordinate system to describe the position of an atom. Internal coordinates can be described in terms of atomic distances, valence angles, and dihedral angles. Internal coordinates can only describe the internal degrees of freedom of a molecule.
